the story behind it

Watertight was the 2nd short I produced and the 2nd opportunity I had to work with writer/director Finley John and co-writer/DoP Matty Feurtado. The idea spawned from an image of a detached house surrounded by an endless sea, and we went from there. Developing most of the script over a speedy 3 weeks, the real challenges began when we decided we wanted to build a set that we could flood up to 50cm high.

With no option to film anywhere other than one of the crew’s back garden, no previous building or carpentry experience and a micro budget of £750 to do it on, it was certainly a challenge. However, spurred on from the passion we had for the story, and the belief that it was somehow possible, we managed to pull it off and achieve what the university tutors didn’t think was possible.

A smooth production and post-production brought us to a final film that both myself and the crew are proud of, and I hope other people can enjoy the film and connect to it in the same way I can.
